Authorship
When an author claims credit for original research, they assume full responsibility for the submitted or published work. LASU Journal of Music and Humanities defines an author as someone who has significantly contributed to the study’s design, data collection and analysis, interpretation, or execution. These contributions are prerequisites for authorship, which is ultimately granted upon the Editor’s approval of the final manuscript.
In LASU Journal of Music and Humanities, the lead author is listed first among all co-authors. The corresponding author acts as a liaison between the journal editors, the publisher, and the other authors, managing all communication related to the submission, review, and publication process. All authors are obligated to ensure the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their submitted work and must sign a publisher’s agreement.
Non-authors: Individuals who do not meet the requirements for single or multiple authorship are not considered authors by LASU Journal of Music and Humanities.
Peer Review Process
Peer review is a crucial part of LASU Journal of Music and Humanities’ publication process, ensuring high-quality articles that align with the journal’s scope. The journal uses a double-blind review process. Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on several criteria, including credibility, clarity of thesis and argument, methodology, originality, and overall quality. LASU Journal of Music and Humanities utilizes four distinct peer-review processes, which are:
Editor screening
The Editor conducts the initial review of a manuscript submitted to LASU Journal of Music and Humanities. During this stage, the Editor assesses the manuscript’s suitability for the journal, checking for fundamental flaws or if it falls outside the journal’s scope. The Editor may choose to “desk-reject” a manuscript without external review if it does not meet these basic criteria. The author may or may not receive feedback on the reasons for rejection. If a manuscript passes this initial screening, it is then sent to external reviewers for further evaluation.
Peer review
The peer review process for LASU Journal of Music and Humanities typically takes two to four months. The journal aims to have three to four reviewers per manuscript. Reviewers are given a maximum of two months to evaluate and submit feedback. The journal provides criteria for evaluation, including a clear thesis, logical argument, sound methodology, and originality, but encourages reviewers to provide comprehensive feedback based on their expertise, going beyond the listed criteria. The Editor considers the reviewers’ feedback and recommendations when deciding whether to reject the manuscript or request major or minor revisions. While most manuscripts undergo a second review, exceptional submissions may be accepted after the initial round.
Revise and resubmit
The revision stage offers authors the chance to refine their manuscripts based on feedback from reviewers and the Editor. Authors should carefully address each comment, detailing how they have incorporated the suggestions or providing clear explanations for any unmet recommendations. While not obligated to implement every suggestion, authors must offer compelling justification for disagreeing with the reviewers or Editor. Authors have one to two months to revise their manuscripts before resubmitting them to the journal. The revised manuscript will then be reviewed by the Editor, or in some cases, by both the Editor and reviewers.
Acceptance
Once revisions are completed, the manuscript may be accepted for publication if it meets the Editor’s and, in some cases, the reviewers’ satisfaction. An official acceptance letter is sent to the authors within two to four weeks of receiving the revised manuscript. Authors may need to complete additional documentation before publication.
Article Publishing Charges
While there is a publication fee of N30,000.00 for articles published in LASUJOMH, the journal prioritizes high-quality, well-researched submissions. All published articles are made freely available online, allowing anyone to read, download, and share the work.
